I have worked with a R&D of a sugarcane & oil palm producing company in Papua New Guinea. My work experience in Cane Breeding (Conventional breeding) and Sugarcane Agronomy research as an Agronomist revolves around number of areas like:

  • Parent Selection and Crosses,
  • Progeny selections, Multiplication and Performance Evaluation,
  • Germplasm collection,
  • Variety Import and evaluation under local climatic conditions.
  • Evaluating performance of Promising Varieties for commercial planting
  • Monitoring annual and long-term cane growth performance for crop budgeting
  • Inter – row cultivation, seed quality, crop spacing and plant density
  • Monitoring crop water use, soil - water regimes under rain-fed farming systems
  • Implementing different soil compaction relief practices in a mechanized cane farming systems
  • Use and evaluation of artificial cane ripeners for cane juice quality at pre/post sprayings to milling
  • Evaluating new imported Herbicides for their phytotoxicity effects on cane and weeds
  • Use of legume crops as cover crops/breaking crops in sugarcane planting cycles
  • Soil profiling and mapping for new land development
  • Routine soil and plant tissue samplings
  • Medium to long-term fertilizer trials under different soil types for meeting crop nutritional requirements

Research interests

  •  Landscape rehabilitation and management
  •  Nutrient movement, soil-water-plant relation and modelling
  •  Crop Intercropping and competition
