Welcome to the Fenner School of Environment and Society! Our mission is to
build and sustain a world-class, nationally-distinctive School at the ANU for
transdisciplinary research and education on complex environment-society systems.
Never before have major environmental issues – water, drought, climate
change, fires, biodiversity loss, and others – been as prominent in Australia
and internationally as they are now. Studying and researching these issues demand
an approach that cuts across the traditional disciplinary divides between the
humanities, the social sciences and the natural sciences.
The Fenner School is unique. There is nowhere else in Australia – and
very few places in the world – where economists and hydrologists, historians
and ecologists, anthropologists and climatologists work together side-by-side,
day-by-day towards common objectives.
Whether you are interested in studying at the Fenner School, joining us as a
research colleague, learning more about the relevance of our work for policy
and management, or simply curious about the great environmental issues of our
times, the information on these pages should help you learn more about what we
do, how we do it, and how you can become involved with our exciting endeavour.
