From the heights of Everest to the depths of the Pacific, protected areas safeguard some of the world’s most beautiful, mysterious and awe-inspiring natural and cultural treasures. The newly released book, Protected Area Governance and Management (ANU Press, 2015), outlines who are the carers, the defenders and the guides for these natural wonders, as well as the special skills and knowledge they need to do their work.

Produced in full colour, beautifully illustrated and available free online, Protected Area Governance and Management is a must-read for all students and professionals working in the field with the 992-page compendium the definitive work on the world’s protected areas, containing all the professional development information needed by carers of these precious natural wonders.

Authored by 168 protected areas professionals and produced by the World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA), this volume is the single greatest volunteer book project in the Commission’s 68 year history.

The book was officially launched by His Excellency Mr Sem Fabrizi, Ambassador of the European Union to Australia and New Zealand on Wednesday 27 May, at the Fenner School.
