The workshop will bring to the forefront the current state of thinking regarding issues of food systems sustainability, food security policy and practice, policy initiatives, and community development with examples from developing countries.

On Monday November 14, 2016, The Fenner School of Environment and Society, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and The Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research are hosting a Food Systems and International Development workshop aimed at taking stock of participating Australian researchers’ and practitioners’ understanding of food security investments in developing countries.  

The full-day workshop will bring to the forefront the current state of thinking regarding issues of food systems sustainability, food security policy and practice, policy initiatives, and community development with examples from developing countries.

The outcome of the workshop will be an extended document with a summary of abstracts and synthesis of major themes discussed during the presentations and workshops.

Who should attend

This workshop is targeted at researchers, policy makers, and practitioners involved in international development work focused on food security.

Presenters & Activities

This full day workshop will include a mix of short presentations by ANU, DFAT, and ACIAR researchers and policy makers, along with two 90 minute small roundtable discussion sessions. Discussions will be focused on conceptual definitions of food security and the impact this has on research and policy, and future investments into food security.
