Carmel has a PhD in Environmental Toxicology from RMIT University, and a Masters in Environmental Law from Macquarie University. Between 2000 and 2002, Carmel was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the City University of Hong Kong, investigating the effects of sediment-derived and food borne pollutants on native marine fish species. Between 2002 and 2006, Carmel joined the Water Studies Centre at Monash University as a Research Fellow, specialising in the development of ecological risk assessment methodologies, particularly focussing on stakeholder engagement and Bayesian models. In late 2006 Carmel joined iCAM at ANU.

Research, Teaching & Professional Activities

My research interest is in the development, application and adoption of models into natural research management. I have a keen interest in developing model methodologies that engage a diverse group of stakeholders, examine complex problems, and fit into an adaptive management framework.

I have also conducted several training courses in ecotoxicology, risk assessment methodologies and Bayesian networks. Courses have included undergraduates, graduates and professionals.

Recent projects have been conducted with Land and Water Australia, the Mekong River Commission, Ok Tedi Mining Limited, irrigation bodies, and natural resource management agencies and organisations.
