Undergraduate Degrees in Forestry

From rainforest to woodland, old-growth to plantation, conservation to management, if you have an interest in forests or any aspects of forestry, then ANU Forestry is the place for you. The ANU Forestry program is one of the strongest in the southern hemisphere. All of our staff have prominent profiles nationally and internationally, and our graduates work around Australia and abroad. What's more, throughout your degree you'll be meeting and interacting with professionals from every area of forestry, and putting your learning into practice through a broad range of fieldwork.

Degree Options

The four-year Bachelor of Science in Forestry is focused on forest science, conservation and management. The degree leads to diverse careers in forest science and management, in urban and rural environments, for conservation and sustainable production, and with forest based industries. The five-year BSc Forestry joint degrees – with either a

will allow you to complement your Forestry degree with another of the University's outstanding degrees. All these degrees are available with Honours for qualified candidates, and all can be taken part time. We also offer graduate degrees and non-degree programs. Alternatively, you can include a major in Forest Science in your Bachelor of Science degree.

Degree Structure and Requirements

The focus of the Bachelor of Forestry at Fenner School is on building your knowledge and skills in forest science, conservation and management. Field-based learning – locally, and on overnight and week-long field trips – is central to our courses. This enables you to build a broad base of relevant knowledge and skills, and you can also choose to specialise in topics ranging from ecology to policy. We help you develop practical, scientific and technical skills through individual and project learning in the classroom and field. We also help you find relevant vacation employment to complement your studies. Full time students must select four courses each semester. All core courses must be completed to meet the requirements of the Forestry degree.

Honours in Forestry

ANU Forestry has a strong Honours program. Most Honours projects are conducted in partnership with researchers in other organisations, and are undertaken in your fourth or fifth year. Contact the Fenner School Honours co-ordinator (fennerschool-hpc@anu.edu.au) about Honours in Forestry. Scholarships are available for many Honours projects.
