Here at The Fenner School we like to think about working between Environmental Science and Society as tackling 'wicked problems'.

A wicked problem is a problem that's difficult or impossible to solve because of its complex and interconnected nature.

When it comes to environmental issues there's a fair few - but that's where our subjects and degrees come in. Almost every single industry in the world is trying to address environment and sustianability problems, and it's our job to find solutions. From ecology and conservation work in the forest, growing our food, managing water, dealing with natural disasters, helping cities run better, or industry to become more sustainable, there's an astonishingly wide range of paths to take.

At Fenner, you'll learrn from leading experts in the fields of environmental science and sustainability research and innovation.

Our research-led, field-based teaching approach means you’ll get to put theory into practice and gain hands-on, practical experience outside of the classroom. We offer a range of fieldwork activities in coastal, wetland, woodland and alpine environments. Whether you’re interested in understanding the impact of changing climate on the functioning of ecosystems at the South Coast, the complex social pressures associated with managing the Australian alpine region or food production in Vietnam, there are a range of field-based activities for you to choose from.
