Matthew Northfield

Field Services Coordinator

Matthew Northfield graduated from ANU with a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Geology and Philosophy. During his studies, Matthew’s experiences of field trips were so positive, he finished his degree with a desire to further his joy in the field. Matthew took up a casual position in Field Services, and his interest and abilities were quickly recognised.

As Field Services Officer, Matthew is dedicated to learning how to serve academics and students who do their research outside. He is particularly interested in implementing new systems to create ease of access to Field Services resources, and supporting teaching and research through consultation, and services delivery.

Matthew spends time helping all members of the Fenner community identify and understand their fieldwork needs; from delivering specific field services tools, to offering protocols for how to go about conducting fieldwork safely and efficiently. Matthew’s work is about giving Fenner the skills, critical thinking, and information to make fieldwork easy and enriching.

Born and raised in Canberra, Matthew loves nature, and is always keen for a visit to Tidbinbilla. He’s also a graphic design, art and illustration wiz, and is particularly interested in the work of Ben Quilty.
