Melanie holds an Honours degree in Economics and English Studies from the University of Wuppertal, Germany. In her thesis, she looked at the evaluating of power plants with a real options approach in the energy sector, identifying more efficient ways to operate power plants and secure energy supply

She obtained her Masters degree in Environmental Management and Development from Crawford School at the Australian National University and was subsequently awarded the Australian Government Research Training Program Scholarship to pursue her Doctorate at the Fenner School of Environment and Society.

Melanie has been working for various environmental state departments, both, local and federal, where she worked on policies and strategies for climate change adaptation and mitigation, renewable energy and energy efficiency.

Under the supervision of Associate Professor Jamie Pittock, Dr Mark Howden and Professor Frank Jotzo, Melanie’s PhD project looks at financing loss and damage from climate change in Small Island Developing States.
