Fenner in the News - Hazard reduction burning is not a panacea to bushfire risk: expert

Experts are pleading for leaders to look at the science and not make kneejerk decisions when it comes to managing fuel loads for bushfire risk. Professor David Lindenmayer says that thinning of forests can actually make them more fire-prone.

"We hear these calls repeatedly (to log forests to reduce load), after fires over the last thirty years. So, these are quite counterproductive and the data show that that's exactly what we shouldn't be doing," Professor Lindenmayer said.
