About

Maria’s research focuses on the socio-ecological understanding of the seaweed farming communities in Palawan, Philippines. Her doctoral research seeks to explore the sustainability of seaweeds, particularly the role of various stakeholders. Throughout her academic journey, Maria has been involved in researches related to agri-food systems, impact assessments and food supply-value chain.

Maria holds master degrees on Environmental Science and Agribusiness Management and Entrepreneurship, respectively, from the University of the Philippines Los Baños, Los Banos, Laguna, Philippines.

Maria is passionate about community-based environmental solutions and is committed to contributing to systems thinking and transdisciplinary approaches to solving today's agri-food challenges. She strives to bridge the gap between socio-ecological researches and the real-world environmental actions.

Outside of her academic pursuits, Maria enjoys the outdoors and cooking international cuisines. She is also involved in environmental advocacies, volunteering and professional organizations.
