About

Sharmin Akter is currently a Ph.D. student at Australian National University (ANU), Canberra, Australia. Her research focuses on the effects of Neonicotinoid insecticides on soil microbial communities hypothesizing that neonicotinoids or their degradation products will negatively impact soil microbial composition, structure, and function ultimately challenging long-term production outcomes and potentially leading to environmental legacy effects. For her research on neonicotinoids, Sharmin has won SETAC AU and ACEDD Peter Teasdale Memorial Award 2022. Prior to joining ANU, Sharmin joined Bangladesh Civil Service at the Ministry of Agriculture of Bangladesh currently on study leave for pursuing her Ph.D. Sharmin graduated in Agriculture and completed her master’s degree in Entomology from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University, Bangladesh.
