Jane Catford Awarded ARC Future Fellowship to Advance Invasive Species Research
The Fenner School is pleased to announce that Professor Jane Catford has been awarded an ARC Future Fellowship. Renowned for her work on ecological invasions, Prof. Catford will leverage this fellowship to deepen her research into the ecological impacts of non-native plants.
Joining the Fenner School in late 2025, she will explore new strategies for managing these impacts through the project Predicting biodiversity impacts of plant invasion in a changing environment.
Among 11 mid-career researchers at the ANU to receive this prestigious fellowship, Prof. Catford's work stands out for its focus on addressing the global biodiversity crisis exacerbated by invasive species.
Currently, at King's College London, Prof. Catford has established herself as a leader in the field, publishing influential studies on ecological resilience and participating in numerous international collaborations. Her contributions have shaped conservation strategies and informed policy-making, demonstrating the practical applications of her research.
With the support of the Future Fellowship, Prof. Catford aims to develop innovative methodologies to forecast the spread of invasive species and assess their ecological impacts. This research is vital for crafting effective conservation strategies and mitigating the risks posed to native ecosystems.
The Fenner School warmly welcomes Prof. Catford, whose expertise will be invaluable in advancing our understanding of ecological resilience and contributing to Australia's biodiversity conservation efforts. This fellowship not only recognises her past achievements but also supports her ongoing and future contributions to environmental science.
