A panoramic coastal scene showing a rugged shoreline and open ocean beneath a mostly cloudy sky. A faint rainbow arcs from the water on the left toward a grassy headland on the right. Waves crash gently along the rocky edge of the coast, and scattered patches of blue sky peek through the clouds. The overall mood is calm and atmospheric.

A wide landscape view taken from a hilltop, showing a single large eucalyptus tree standing prominently in the foreground. The ground is dry and patchy with sparse grasses and small plants. Mist or low-lying fog blankets the valley below, partially covering the wooded hills and suburban areas in the distance. The sky above is clear and blue, with a few wisps of cloud, suggesting a cool early morning in an Australian bush reserve.
15 Oct 2025 | 12 - 1pm

This talk presents findings from a global meta-analysis of 186 studies assessing biodiversity outcomes over time. It shows that in two-thirds of cases, conservation actions improved biodiversity or slowed its decline. Results highlight the effectiveness of targeted interventions such as invasive species control, habitat restoration, and protected areas—while calling for a transformational scale-up to meet global nature targets.

Himawari 8 satellite circles above the earth
24 Mar 2025 | 4 - 4:30pm

Australian dust storms can be characterised by where they come from, where they travel to and how much dust is transported. This thesis aims to build an Australian dust storm dataset using geostationary satellite Himawari-8 that can be used to analyse these characteristics.

a microbe
24 Mar 2025 | 3 - 4pm

Microbial communities are fundamental to soil health, driving nutrient cycling, organic matter decomposition, and plant-microbe interactions. This research investigates how neonicotinoids influence microbial communities, interactions and functional potential across different soil types
